Mercury 2.0 Unstable

  • Make sure your music player is supported in Mercury. You can add support for new music players yourself, instructions for this can be found here. Currently, the following music players are supported:
    • Linux:
      • Amarok
      • Amarok 2
      • Kaffeine
      • Rythmbox
    • OS X:
      • iTunes
    • Windows:
      • Winamp: instructions to enable this this can be found here
    • (TODO: add more players if they are supported)
  • Open Account preferences (Preferences > Account Preferences)
  • In the MSN/Display Name menu (immediately seen upon opening Account Preferences) under Music listening options, select your music player in the dropdown box for Music Player. Under Display current media, select Music in the dropdown box for Current media. Press OK to close the Account Preferences window

Note: you can use the Shell Command option from the dropdown menu to display your current song if you can output it from the commandline by entering the command used for this in the Shell Command input box. (Technically, this can display any single line string output as your personal message, not just song information)

Mercury should now show the currently playing song from your selected music player. The song gets checked every 30 seconds, so there is a maximum delay of 30 seconds between the change in the player and the change in Mercury.

Mercury 1.9 Stable

  • Make sure your music player is supported in Mercury or you can output the current song information from the commandline. Currently, the following music players are supported:
    • Linux:
      • (TODO: add known players)
    • OS X:
      • (TODO: add known players)
    • Windows:
      • Winamp (through Shell Command): instructions on getting the current song from the command line can be found here
  • Open Mercury and go into the Account settings --> " Display Name "
  • At " Current Song " you have to enable " Show Current Playing Song "
  • Check if your music player has native support in Mercury and is shown in the dropdown box
    • If it is, you can select it from the dropdown box
    • If not, select the Shell Command from the dropdown box and write the command which outputs the current song info into the "Shell Command ", e.g."type "c:\programms\Mercury\playlist.txt"" on Windows(without outer quotes and don't forget to add the "type" command before the path to your txt file) or "dcop amarok player nowPlaying" on Linux. (Technically, this can display any single line string output as your personal message, not just song information)

Mercury should now show the currently playing song from your music player. The song gets checked every 30 seconds, so there is a maximum delay of 30 seconds between the change in the player and the change in Mercury. When a song is stopped, paused or your playlist ends, the song information is not removed from your nickname.
