MSN Menu Overview

These are the options available from the Mercury MSN menu in the main window of Mercury. Most of these are quite self-explanatory, but you can use this overview to search for specific features or just to get some more information on any specific option. Use the contents table to go directly to the menu-item you wish to see.

MSN

Sign out

Signs you out from your MSN account in the current MSN tab. Shortcut key: Ctrl+L

Change status

Opens a sub-menu where you can choose the status you want to show on your MSN account.

Custom state

Opens a sub-menu where you can also choose a status to show on your MSN account, but these are custom states which are shown (in Mercury atleast) alongside your normal status.

Open log directory

Opens the directory where your log files are stored.

Open received files directory

Opens the directory where your received files are stored, or where the contact-specific subfolders for your received files are located.

Open display picture directory

Opens the directory where your contacts' display pictures are stored (in contact-specific subfolders).

Exit

Exits the Mercury client entirely. Shortcut key: Ctrl+Q

Tabs

New MSN tab

Opens a new MSN tab within Mercury where you can log in with a different MSN account. Keyboard shortcut: Ctrl+M

Close current tab

Closes the current tab.

Close all tabs

Closes all tabs in Mercury (except the System tab, which never closes)

Actions

Add a contact

Add a contact to your contact list by entering their email address in the dialog that is shown and optionally define their alias and group, then click Add.

Add a group

Add a group to your contact list by entering its name in the dialog that is shown and clicking Add.

Add emoticon

Add a custom emoticon to Mercury by providing its URL (for web images) or local file path (for local images) and the key combination you wish to use with this emoticon. Then click Add.

Search contacts

Search for contacts in your contactlist. Clicking this enables a search field at the top of your contact list which you can use to search through your contact list. When you're done searching, you can click the X on the right to remove it again. Shortcut key: Ctrl+F

Show/hide offline contacts

Toggles the hiding or showing of offline contacts in your contact list (invisible contacts are not seen as offline, even if their status icon is the same as the offline icon) Shortcut Key: F4

Send a message to ...

Send a chat message to a contact by entering their email address in the shown window, then pressing OK.

Download unknown display pictures

Download display pictures you don't yet have from people in your contactlist. (May not be applicable if the "Auto download unknown display pictures" option is checked in Account preferences > Conversations/Settings > Display Picture)

Play webcam stream

Select a Mimic (*.ml20) file from your saved webcam streams and play it in Mercury.

Convert webcam stream (Requires JMF)

Convert one of the Mimic (*.ml20) files to Quicktime (*.mov) video files. As noted, you need the JMF to do this (should be included in official 1.9 stable release)

Import/Export

Import/Export Account settings and/or your MSN contactlist.

Change contact list display

Toggles the display method of your MSN contact list. The available display methods are Normal(as defined by your Contact list view), Display Picture Row (with contacts shown only as display pictures in a row and full details given for the currently selected contact) and Display Picture Table (with contacts shown only as display pictures in a single table with details given for the contact while hovering over it). The last two display modes are still very experimental and are not practical for everyday use.

Opens your Account preferences window.

View preferences

Opens your View preferences window.

Global preferences

Opens your Global preferences window.

Help

Mercury Forum

Opens the Mercury Forum site in a browser window.

Changelog

Shows the changelog for Mercury

MSN Service Status

Opens the MSN Service Status site in a browser window.

Debug

Select current communications log

Opens a file browser window with the communications log selected in it.

Select current info log

Opens a file browser window with the info log selected in it.

Debug Console

Opens the Debug Console. This can be used to execute commands without needing to open a conversation to anyone or even being signed in to an MSN account.

Write settings to info log

Writes your current account settings to your info log for better understanding of a situation in case of an error or bug.

About Mercury

Opens a window with author and version information and credits.
